REFLO milestone guide — name the moments you’ll need again

From what a milestone is through marking, gathering, searching, and cleaning up — how to keep important moments from getting lost among hundreds of save records.

As you work, save records pile up by the dozens or hundreds. Finding “the version I sent the client” or “the moment we locked color” in that pile takes time. Milestones exist for those moments — you name a point you’ll need again and mark it as a landmark.

This guide covers what a milestone is, how to mark one, how to jump to it, and how to clean up.

What is a milestone?

A milestone is a name tag you attach to a specific version on the timeline.

It doesn’t copy the file or change history. It only adds a mark to a save record that already exists.
As a milestone, it stands out on the timeline with a flag badge, and you can gather them all in the milestone list.
Names are free-form. Examples: Client v1 handoff, Color locked, Ready to print.

How is this different from auto-save and manual backup?

The three play different roles.

Two things worth knowing:

A manual backup does not automatically become a milestone. If you want a landmark, mark as milestone separately.
Dense auto-saves collapse into sessions on the timeline, but a point with a milestone is treated separately so it isn’t buried in a group.

Marking a milestone

On the History screen (shortcut ⌘2), select the version (dot) you want as a landmark.
In the action panel, click Mark as milestone.
Enter a milestone name and Save. The name can’t be empty — giving it a name you’ll recognize later is the point of a milestone.

Once marked, that point on the timeline gets a flag and stands out as a yellow dot.

> Naming tip — write why it matters, not just “what you did.” Client approved is kinder to future-you than edit3; Ready for the printer is kinder than backup.

This is not the same as pin

They look similar, which is confusing, but Pin is a separate feature.

Marking a milestone does not pin it automatically. Turn on Pin separately if you need it.

Gather milestones and jump

On the History screen, click Milestones (flag) on the right icon rail to open the milestone list.
The list gathers milestones as cards for the whole drive (protected folder), not only the file you’re viewing. You can scan landmarks scattered across files on one screen.
Click a card to jump to that moment; arrow keys move between cards.
The top of the timeline shows up to 8 quick-access milestones, so you can jump without opening the list.

If you have none yet, you’ll see “No milestones yet — select a version on the timeline and mark an important moment.”

Find with search

In timeline search (⌘F or /) you can search by milestone name. Typing approved finds a Client approved milestone. You can also search the keyword “milestone” to skim only milestone points.

Rename and delete

Right-click a card in the milestone list for cleanup actions.

Rename — change the name in the Edit milestone window. If the meaning shifted as the project moved on, reflecting status like On hold — neon comp is useful.
Delete — you’ll see “If you delete this milestone, it cannot be undone.” What is deleted is the landmark mark; the save record for that moment stays on the timeline. Clean up with confidence.

The other way around: a version marked as a milestone is protected from being deleted by accident when you clean up save records.

What changes by plan (summary)

Confirm details on the pricing page and in the app.

Free’s limit of 5 is for the whole workspace, not per file. Hitting the limit shows a Pro prompt.
Free’s retention limit of about 14 days applies to milestones the same way. Marking a milestone does not extend retention, so consider Pro for work you need to keep longer.

FAQ

Does a manual backup automatically become a milestone?

No. A manual backup leaves a checkpoint; a milestone is a separate step that names it as a landmark. For a point you really want to keep, mark as milestone as well.

If I delete a milestone, does that version disappear too?

No. Only the landmark mark is deleted; the save record stays on the timeline.

Can I see milestones from other files on one screen?

Yes. The milestone list gathers at drive (protected folder) scope. If you protect one project folder, you can scan landmarks from the files inside it at once.

Do they show up in the Photoshop plugin?

The plugin panel’s save records show a flag and name. Marking a milestone, renaming, and similar actions happen on the Mac app History screen.

Marking a new milestone shows a Pro prompt. You can still rename existing milestones, so you can delete a less important landmark to free a slot, or upgrade the plan.
